The EUBAM Liaison Office in Republic of Moldova (MDLO) was inaugurated at the beginning of the EUBAM Phase 7, on 1 December 2009. The MDLO aims to:

• Act as liaison between EUBAM senior management and the partner authorities in the Republic of Moldova as well as with law enforcement attachés of EU Member States.
• Advise on management (organizational issues) of the Border Guard andCustoms Services of the Republic of Moldova at the strategic level.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of operational issues of the partner services of the Republic of Moldova in relation to the peaceful settlement of the conflict in the transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova.

The MDLO Team consists of a Liaison Officer and Border Police Advisor, Customs Specialist and two Administrative Assistants/Interpreters. Part of the team is located in the Moldovan Border Guard Service HQ (Liaison Officer and Border Police Advisor and Assistant) with the Customs Specialist and Assistant located within Moldovan Customs Service HQ.

• The main expected outcomes of the liaison office under the current EUBAM Phase of activities are to:
• increase the visibility and operational capability of the Mission;
• establish  and maintain good contacts with all partner services and law enforcement agencies;
• liaise between EUBAM management and senior management of the partner services;
• assist in organizing and holding meetings and seminars for EUBAM Units and experts;
• assist Mission management with interpretation in major important events, working meetings, seminars and translation of relevant documentation;
• on request of EUBAM management, to  ensure EUBAM representation in important national events, meetings and official receptions;
• support EUBAM experts in the implementation of EUBAM recommendations and advice to the partner services;
• support EUBAM units and field offices in the  implementation of specific measures according to the Mission’s Action Plan;
• Deliver to Mission management and other EUBAM actors relevant information concerning the partner services and the wider environment in the Republic of Moldova.
