EUBAM forges new contacts with Georgian border service

01.12.2011, Odessa

In recent weeks EUBAM hosted a visit of a delegation from the Georgian Border Guard Service at headquarters in Odessa. During the meetings, which included presentations of both EUBAM and the Georgian BGS delegation, both parties used the opportunity to exchange perspectives on their current activities, developments and achieved results.

The main issue on the agenda was possible future cooperation and deepening of collaboration in common spheres of interest. The delegation also had a chance to pay a familiarization visit to Odessa Sea Port and the BG South Regional Directorate, which communicated its activities in combatting cross-border crime and other relevant areas.

The Georgian border authority has undergone significant reform in recent times. It has achieved excellent results in terms of restructuring, finding new approaches, and anti-corruption efforts, and also in improving the perception of the population towards State authorities. Its experience would potentially be of good use to EUBAM.
