Christmas is a time for sharing with friends and family kind thoughts and warm wishes, love and pure joy. But those 78 children of 11-18 years old from socially vulnerable families and orphans, hosted by Cazanesti boarding school in FOCH AoR, need more than that. In their struggle with a permanent lack in things we take for granted – healthy nutrition, decent rooms for living and studying, books, and the list goes on – any little help coming from outside those wretched walls of the orphanage makes their life slightly easier, gives them hope that they are not forgotten and that the future holds something good for them as well.
The school was founded in 1957 but since then has only had superficial repairs done. It is now headed by Director Tatiana Murjac and managed with state budget funds granted by the MD Ministry of Education. However, the modest daily allowance of USD 0.80 per child barely suffices to cover every day needs (food, housing, clothing).
Needless to say, this good cause inspired the HoFOCH and former FOCH expert, Cornell Roeseler, to initiate a joint charity project in December last year. The two brought together money donations collected from FOCH staff and a significant contribution from graduates of German Walsrode Police School, used eventually for the procurement of two washing machines, desperately needed, a washing powder supply and literature for the institution.
It may be a small help, but a big step to make life easier for these unfortunate children and those who take care of them, bringing back smiles to their faces and the simple joy of reading good books and wearing clean clothes.
Yet there is always space for more that can be done and requires only a little effort from each and everyone, but is ever so rewarding and honourable.
